Scarecrow books were made to teach about writing descriptive phrases. Using the 5 senses for each page of the book generated our writing. Scarecrow, scarecrow, how do you feel? The question was answered by describing something that a scarecrow could feel in the Autumn. For example, I feel the whistling, cold wind blowing on me. The children drew a picture of their descriptive sentence. Each page of the book was a different sense. The last page was , "What do you see?" I see_____ (child's name) ____ at me ( smiling, looking, laughing, jumping, etc). A full length photo of the child was cut out and glued on a Fall background that they drew.
The cover of the book was made by cutting "jeans" out of worn out jeans. A paper pattern shirt, hat, and face was added. These were also embellished with stickers, buttons, raffia, etc.
