Poetry Anthologies

My second grade class made their own poetry anthologies. During the month of April, we explored many different types of poetry, reading and writing our own. We covered cereal box cardboard with scrapbook paper and collages of magazine photographs with themes from our poetry. Some of our favorite types of poetry were:
Masterpiece poetry- poetry written based on a favorite piece of art. It can be any art from something that they created or "Picasso."

Concrete poetry- a pencil sketch of their favorite animals was drawn and then adverbs and adjectives that describe their animals were written around the pencil outline.

Poetry in Motion- action poems, action words drawn in the motion that they make, these were also acted out like charades.

Acrostic poetry using the letters of their names to describe themselves.

Fingerpaint poetry- From a list of words such as joy, peace, hope, etc. were fingerpainted. The paintings were cut around and glued on black paper. Words describing their subject were integrated into a composition.

Scribble Poetry- Make a randon scribble or doodle with a crayon. Turn it into something and then write a poem about it.
