We made Johnny Appleseed biographies. The cover of the book was inspired by the artwork from the book, Johnny Appleseed by Stephen and Rosemary Vincent Benet. The chidlren drew portraits of Johnny Appleseed on manilla paper with crayons, cut them out and glued their onto a pocket file folder. These 3 prong folders make great books with the side pockets to store their work until the book is finished. We read the Stephen Kellogg Johnny Appleseed book and then summarized the book into 4 parts which we called our chapters. The chapters were: 1. John Chapman's childhood, 2. Johnny moves West. 3. Planting trees and telling stories, and 4. The end.
