An Owl snack was made by assembling 2 Fall Snack Cakes with a pretzel, chocolate kisses or stars for eyes, 2 cheese snacks for tufts, and a fish cracker for the beak. Wings and feet were drawn on the paper plate.
This was the week to study about Owls. Our book making project included: the title page made in the computer lab, owl facts, an owl poem, and an owl glyph.
1. Cover- Make an owl on a blue file folder. Glue magazine cut feathers or specked water colored paper feathers onto an owl template. Keep the feathers loose, only gluing on the top.\
2. Title page- The title made in wordart, inserting clip art of an owl and adding the student's name as author and illustrator.
3. After reading together, "Owls, by Gail Gobbons, and "All About Owls by Jim Arnosky," we brainstormed 20 facts. These facts were collected on the board. The students picked their favorite ten for their book. This page was decorated with owl stickers.
4.Owl Glyph- I amde up a glyph to create an owl. For example: If you like fall best, pick a brown background, winter- black, summer- green- spring- blue. Draw a branch with the number of leaves for how old you are, The facial discs- heart shaped -if you are a girl, round if you are a boy, orange talons for soccer lovers, yellow for football lovers, etc. Include the key so that their parents can read their glyph.
