In our literature study, we read , "The Empty Pot," by Demi. The beautiful flowers that the children gave to the emperor reminded me of the gorgeous flower paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe, so I decided to incorporate both into an art lesson. I took the picture of a desert flower during Spring Break in Arizona and used it as our inspiration.
The children painted giant flower petals, cut them out and glued them to overlap creating depth. The finishing touch was details drawn with Crayola color sticks.
